Kristi Payne, enroute from the Mobile area to Florence, ran into the back of a north bound truck on Highway 13. Her Dodge struck the rear of a Harden flat-bed truck which had just pulled onto the highway going toward Bear Creek. Other than a few scratches, she was

uninjured in an accident that could have had a different outcome. The Harden truck driver was uninjured and the truck had little damage. Kathi was on her way to register as a student at the University of North Alabama. With the help of friends from Spruce Pine, she still planned to get to Florence and enroll in school.
